Bay of Crabs

Fire & Blood

The Bay of Crabs enters the account as the destination toward which Nettles turns when she flies from Maidenpool in the Riverlands on Sheepstealer. It marks the last recorded direction of her departure, not a place where the narrative describes her arrival or later life.

Nettles’s Departure

At dawn, Daemon Targaryen helped Nettles saddle Sheepstealer for the last time. Before mounting, she fed him a black ram, the largest in Maidenpool; Maester Norren records that her riding leathers were stained with blood and her cheeks with tears. No farewell passed between them. As Sheepstealer climbed into the morning sky, Caraxes screamed so loudly that every window in Jonquil’s Tower shattered. High above the town, Nettles turned toward the Bay of Crabs and disappeared into the mists.

The Last Recorded Direction

The account identifies the bay only through this turn in Nettles’s flight. It gives no further description of the water, no account of her landing, and no confirmation of where she went afterward. The place therefore serves as a geographic marker for the end of the witnessed departure rather than the setting of a narrated episode.

Narrative Significance

Maester Norren’s account says that Nettles was never seen again at court or castle. The Bay of Crabs consequently stands at the point where the record’s certainty ends: her course is known only as far as the mists, and the narrative leaves her subsequent fate unreported.
